How long is the shelf life of chip capacitors, and can they still be used after the shelf life has expired?

Many times we are concerned about the performance parameters, quality, size, etc. of SMD capacitors, but many times, it is clear that all our parameters in the project conform to the design of the entire circuit, but in the final test, we did not achieve the results we wanted. . In fact, we all know that everything has a life cycle, which is also the product shelf life we usually say, and chip capacitors are no exception.

The effect period of ceramic chip capacitors is two years. The longer the ceramic capacitors have been in existence for two years, the better the effect will be. The ceramic capacitors that have existed for a long time will have smaller dielectrics, and the characteristics of ceramic capacitors will be better.

It is not good to not use the capacitor for a long time, and it is very easy to damage. It is best to charge and discharge several times at intervals.

Capacitors should be stored without unpacking, and should not be exposed to direct sunlight or dust. Generally, they should be stored at room temperature (10-30°C) (relative humidity below 75%). If it is placed in a high temperature and high humidity environment for a long time, it will not only deteriorate the solderability of the lead-out solder tab, but also deteriorate the performance of the capacitor. In principle, the shelf life is 2 years. For products that have exceeded the shelf life, please re-inspect and confirm that there is no abnormality before use.文章配图02

The promised storage period of ceramic chip capacitors is 2 years, which far exceeds the 2-year period in actual use. The storage conditions are generally about 25 ℃ ± 5 ℃ at room temperature and 65% ± 10% humidity for 2 years. It will affect the electrical characteristics of the capacitor. Ceramic capacitors should be stored in a dry; moisture-proof; chemical-proof; fire-proof place.
