Rochester Institute of Technology recently acquired new electronic assembly equipment for its Electronics and Manufacturing Assembly Center (CEMA). The university installed DEK NeoHorizen printers for electronics manufacturers to accurately place transistors on electronic circuit boards.

The equipment will be used for teaching, teacher research and corporate research and development in the following ways:

Between RIT and ASM assembly system. As part of the partnership, the two organizations are advancing production processes and operations to meet the needs of the evolving manufacturing industry. Research conducted by CEMA and ASM, the international electronics manufacturing organization, is advancing this critical step to assemble the mechanical components of devices such as smartphones.

"

Of interest is the use of very small components in advanced products. The transistors (resistors and capacitors) of these devices are very small and difficult to see with the naked eye, so advanced equipment is required to assemble them. "

. "This printing machine is a printing machine used in today's industry. It can achieve better control and more advanced product manufacturing."

Anselm, also a faculty researcher at RIT

Has been cooperating with the company on projects related to adding micro-components to circuit boards and requiring larger battery storage capacity.

"One way for mobile phones to extend battery life is to make more room for the battery. The more times we can put electronic devices in a smaller size, the larger the internal volume of the battery. The smaller the circuit board we make , The more powerful the product is.” He said, referring to the dense space between circuits.

CEMA was established in RIT in 1995 to provide labor training, development, prototype testing and research for the electronics manufacturing and packaging industries. Its corporate partners represent local and national companies.

In 2017, RIT expanded its long-term cooperation with ASM, thereby enhancing CEMA's capabilities in the field of electronics manufacturing. The value of the new equipment is nearly $250,000 and will further promote RIT’s overall contribution to AIM Photonics, especially in the field of next-generation electronic equipment and packaging. Both organizations will contribute to the growing industry.
