AEC-Q101 qualified discrete semiconductors in DFN packages

Nexperia announced a series of automotive-grade discrete semiconductors in DFN packages, calling it the industry’s broadest product portfolio.

These include bipolar transistors, n-channel mosfets, p-channel mosfets, Schottky diodes, Zener diodes, switching diodes and protection diodes, as well as transistors and LED drivers equipped with resistors.

"Automotive grade discrete lead-free packages range from very small DFN1006BD-2 [1 x 0.6 x 0.5mm] to DFN2020D-3 [2 x 2 x 0.65mm], including the recently released DFN1110D-3 and DFN1412D-3 styles. According to Nexperia, its DFN components have good thermal paths-some packages support junctions up to 175°C.

Including side wettable sides for optical inspection, the company claims that this feature also improves the mechanical strength of the package to the PCB soldering compared to equipment without a wettable side, thereby increasing the shear force and board bending ability.

Nexperia general manager Mark Roeloffzen said: "With the automotive DFN package series, Nexperia provides engineers with a choice: use the current leading SMD packaging to develop their applications, or use space-saving DFN technology."

Nexperia said that the available types include standard products, such as BC847, BC817 and BAV99, and there will be more product releases in 2020, "this will lead to the broadest combination of such devices in the industry."
