ProTek Devices’ Intros TVS Array to Thwart Malicious and Accidental USB Killer Attacks

ProTek Equipment Corporation introduced the TVS array, which is capable of defending against malicious or unsuspecting USB Killer attacks, which has proven to be costly for organizations in terms of equipment and data loss. The new components provide circuit protection to prevent positive ESD on data lines, fast surge voltage transients and high negative voltage transients, such as the protection that USB Killer devices can achieve.

PRUSB05UBK has an ultra-low capacitance CJ (SD) of 2.5pF. The typical value is an integrated resistor on each data line. It complies with the IEC industrial standard 61000-4-2 (ESD): air ±15kV, contact ±8kV; 61000-4-4 (EFT): 40A, 5 / 50ns; and has 61000-4-5 (surge): 24A , 8/20 microseconds-level 2 (LineGnd) and level 3 (line-line).

It provides protection for four lines, each line provides 500 watts of peak pulse power (typical value = 8/20 microseconds). The rated voltage of ESD protection is up to 25 kV. The new components also provide a low clamping voltage and comply with RoHS and REACH standards.

Other mechanical and packaging features include lead-free pure tin plating and a solder reflow temperature of 260-270 degrees Celsius (pure tin-Sn, 100).
