With tested altitudes up to 80,000 feet, the series meets the most demanding military, aerospace, industrial and underground applications.
According to the manufacturer Cornell Dubilier Electronics (CDE), the long-life film capacitor series is said to replace the expensive wet tantalum capacitor bank, which has obvious size and cost advantages compared to series-parallel capacitors. The NHR type is a derivative product of the company's Flatpack series, which has been proven in military and aerospace applications for nearly 30 years.
The company claims that it has successfully helped customers replace large series-parallel wet tantalum capacitors with fewer components, thereby saving valuable space, weight and cost.
NHR aluminum electrolytic capacitors can withstand operating temperatures from -55°C to 150°C. Its structure is a rectangular stainless steel case and a laser welded cover to prevent it from drying out. The available voltage range of the components in the NHR series is 75Vdc to 300Vdc, and the capacitance value range is 60µF to 960µF.
From 1.5 inches to 3.0 inches, there are four shell lengths (in 0.5 inch increments) available. In all cases, the thickness is 0.5 inches and the width is 1.0 inches. The series has a load life of 3,000 hours at 150°C, with a maximum vibration of 50g on the three largest enclosures and a load of 80g on the smallest enclosure.
Potential applications include any high-performance circuits that require large-capacity capacitor storage and filtering at high temperatures. These include power supplies and inverters used in the energy industry such as avionics, military electronic equipment, and underground recording equipment.
